Mending

& Upcycling

One of the largest forms of waste in our landfills is textile waste. Due to being a maker and trans person experiencing a shifting body type due to HRT, Julian consistently was dealing with either unsightly stains and rips or clothes no longer fitting seemingly overnight. In an effort to buy no new clothes and to love the pieces they had, they streamlined several techniques in creative mends, silkscreening, painting, dyeing, and variable tailoring to fit their needs. You can find more on the classes and events surrounding mending that they’ve led farther down the page.

Julian also participates in pop ups with different organizations dedicated to reducing textile waste in landfills to mend items brought in or to workshop how to mend items. They’ve worked with LAPL, Patagonia, Creative Reuse spaces in Los Angeles, and more.
